Horvat Vineyards

Horvat Vineyards

Horvat Vineyards are located in the Počehova Hills, which rise along the edge of Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city and home to the world’s oldest grapevine. Our winery lies near the Pyramid Hill (Piramida), a small hill overlooking the city where Maribor’s history began. As a family, we have long been closely connected to grapevines and their fruits. Previous generations cultivated vineyards in various locations across Haloze, but fate led to the establishment of the Horvat Vineyards brand in 1960 with the purchase of a family estate in Počehova. We are committed to preserving the legacy of viticulture, carefully cultivating and nurturing wines, and enhancing this tradition with modern knowledge. Our terroir is influenced by both the Alpine and Pre-Alpine regions as well as the Pannonian Basin. This unique climate provides hot, relatively dry summers, cool autumn nights, and cold winters, embodying continental wine production characteristics that we strive to harness. In our wines, we aim to retain varietal purity, fruity-floral-herbal aromatic profiles, and a flavor enhanced by the presence of minerality. Our vineyards span three distinct estates, totaling 9 hectares. Each estate has its own specific characteristics—most of the soil is marl-clay, with shades of sandstone depending on the vineyard's location. The grape varieties we cultivate include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Welschriesling, Yellow Muscat, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Rhine Riesling, and Gewürztraminer. Among these, we hold a special affection for Sauvignon Blanc.
