Sanctum
The boutique family winery Sanctum is also known as the Slovenian Burgundy winery, as our flagship wines are two traditional Burgundy varieties: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Our specialty is the cool-climate Syrah, a variety not typical for the Štajerska (Styria) region of Slovenia, yet it thrives here due to favorable conditions. The name Sanctum means "something hidden and sacred." With expertise and precision, we strive every year to produce exceptional wines—wines that uncompromisingly showcase the high minerality of marl soil and the complex aromas of the cool climate. The owner of Sanctum Winery is Mr. Marko Podkubovšek, a cosmopolitan and wine enthusiast who believes in local tradition and handcrafted wines. He has a passion for world-class wines and gastronomy and joyfully shares and passes on his love for winemaking to his son, Marko Alain. The vineyards of Sanctum Winery stretch across the steep southern slopes of the hills above Loče, a region rich in viticultural history, where Carthusian monks cultivated vines as early as the 12th century.
